Configuring TCCS for forward proxy

This procedure describes how to configure TCCS for forward proxy using Teamcenter Environment Manager (TEM) or Deployment Center. You can also configure TCCS using other tools depending on your environment, such as the Teamcenter Client Communication System (TCCS) installer, the Client for Office installer, and web tier context parameters. The TCCS configuration options in most of these tools are similar. If Teamcenter client applications must use a forward proxy to access Teamcenter services such as the web tier and the FMS server cache (FSC), then install TCCS on the client machine and perform the following steps using TEM and Deployment Center to configure TCCS to point to the forward proxy server: Companies frequently use forward proxies to control access of clients to the Internet and to cache responses to optimize Internet access. Users in these companies typically set their web browsers to use the proxy server when accessing the Internet. When a Teamcenter client is deployed in such an environment, it must adapt to the requirements of the forward proxy server including submission of the request to a proxy address (in addition to the address for the Teamcenter service) and authentication to the proxy server. Many companies configure proxy access centrally for all browsers using a mechanism called proxy autoconfiguration (PAC). Their web browsers are then set to download the autoconfiguration at startup. Teamcenter clients leverage this existing central configuration to fit in automatically to your deployment environment. In TEM, navigate to the Forward Proxy Settings view, which is an advanced view of Client Communication System settings. You reach the view as part of initial installation of the rich client, or as modification of the Client Communication System feature configuration. In Deployment Center, navigate to the Forward Proxy Settings section in the Teamcenter Client Communication System component. The settings in the Forward Proxy Settings view in TEM and the Forward Proxy Settings section in Deployment Center are similar to the settings found in web browsers for configuring proxies. Select the appropriate setting for your environment, adding values as needed. For this situation Do this Your company does not use forward proxy. Select Do not use forward proxy Users in your company are required to use their web browser or computer settings to point to the proxy server. If you are using TEM, select Use web browser settings. If you are using Deployment Center, select the Use Computer Settings check box. Selecting this option automatically retrieves the proxy settings from the client’s web browser. Your company uses a Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Protocol (WPAD) to point to the proxy server. When using either TEM or Deployment Center, select Detect settings from network. With WPAD, clients automatically locate a URL of a configuration file using the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or the Domain Name System (DNS). Your company uses a proxy autoconfiguration (PAC) file to point to the proxy server. When using either TEM or Deployment Center, select Retrieve settings from URL. In the Proxy URL box, type the address where the PAC file is located. Your company does not use automatic methods to point to the proxy server. When using either TEM or Deployment Center, select Configure settings manually. In this situation Do this The same proxy server is used for all forward and reverse proxy requests. Select All Protocols Host. Type the host name or IP address of the server in the Host box, and type the server port number in the Port box. You have separate proxy servers dedicated to HTTP and HTTPS requests. Select HTTP Protocols. Select HTTP Host and HTTPS Port and type the host and port information in the provided boxes. In the Exceptions box, type a list of host names or IP addresses that are not proxied. Separate hosts by semicolons. For example, localhost; my_tc; 182 exempts http://localhost:8017/tc, https://my_tc:14327/tc, and http://182.0.0.27:8080/tc. The forward proxy information is saved in the fwdproxy_cfg.properties file.
