Configuring Systems Engineering > Customizing Visio diagram templates

Create a diagram template

Note: Microsoft Visio Professional must be installed on your computer; Visio Standard is not supported.

Procedure

  1. Choose Tools -> Diagram -> Create Template to open the New Diagram Template dialog box.
  2. In the Select Template Type dialog box, accept the default setting of Visio Template.
  3. Enter an identifier, name, and description for the template.
  4. Select the application domain for the template's diagrams. (Note: you cannot change the application domain after the template is created.)
  5. Optionally:
    • Select Available to make the template available for creating new diagrams.
    • Select Hide Interface Shapes to specify that the template's diagrams do not display interface shapes for connections that exist in the corresponding structures. Connections without interfaces must be enabled by setting the Connected_ToRules preference to true. Caution: this setting cannot be changed after the diagram template is created — a diagram without interfaces cannot be changed to display interfaces.
    • Select a membership rule: when an object is selected in a diagram, the membership rule determines the set of related objects that may appear. Choices vary with each application domain.
    • Select general relation management (GRM) rules as relation rules: these determine which relations among objects appear as available connector shapes when objects are selected in a diagram. Choices vary with each application domain.
    • Select a stencil file containing shapes to associate with the diagram template. You can select two or more stencils using standard Windows multi-selection. Note: the default stencil depends on application domain — FM_Diagram_Stencil.vsx for the Function view, LM_Diagram_Stencil.vsx for the Logical Block view.
    • Select a mapping file that maps the selected stencil file to Teamcenter object types and properties. Note: the default mapping file depends on application domain — FM_Diagram_prop_map.xml for the Function view, LM_Diagram_prop_map.xml for the Logical Block view.
  6. Click OK to create the diagram template object and close the dialog box.

Note: By default, new diagram templates are stored in the NewStuff folder.
