Edit the contents of a custom note

Caution

On Teamcenter servers using the ISO 8859-1 character set (TC_CHARACTER_ENCODING_SET), some characters of the Microsoft Office Word rich-text format cannot be translated to plain text. These characters include, for example, Word's smart quotation marks, em dashes, and symbols such as Ohm signs (Ω).

Such characters are replaced by question marks (?) in plain text and in the Systems Engineering interface, for example, in object names and in certain property values. To avoid this problem, do one of the following:

  • Before you enter content for an object, configure the MS Word view to display plain text content.
  • Run the Teamcenter server on Windows, using a database that is compatible with CP1252 encoding.
  • Use UTF-8 encoding for the Teamcenter server and database.

Procedure

  1. Configure the MS Word view to set up the word file type associations and templates.
  2. From the navigation tab, click Systems Engineering.
  3. Display the custom note revision by choosing one of the following methods:
    • Select the object with the custom note and choose Window→Show View→Other→Systems Engineering→Custom Notes or click Custom Notes Manager on the toolbar to display the custom note in the Custom Notes view.
    • Right-click the custom note or the object containing the custom note and choose Open with→Details to display the attached custom note revisions in the Details view.
    • If the custom note exists in a folder, expand the custom note to display the custom note revisions. If the object containing the custom note exists in a folder, expand the object to display the custom note revisions.
  4. Select the custom note revision you want to edit the contents for and click MS Word View on the toolbar.
  5. From the File Download dialog box, click Open. The custom note text opens in a Word window within Teamcenter.
  6. In the Word window, type your new or changed custom note text.
  7. Click Save in the upper right corner of the Word window to save the text.

The Save button becomes unavailable after the save is complete.
