View where a part is used A where-used analysis in Teamcenter helps you identify all parent assemblies and products in which a part is used by navigating up the structure. Starting from a selected component or assembly as the context, this analysis traces usage throughout all levels of the structure. You can use a where-used analysis to: Assess the impact of engineering changes to the product structure. Check if changes in one assembly affect other assemblies. Determine which products are affected by item changes. View items in the context of their products through traversal paths. Restrictions and limitations Your Teamcenter setup must contain Smart Discovery Indexing to access the TOP LEVEL section and view top-level assemblies or products. Procedure Search for and select the part. Click the Where Used tab. Expand the tree in the Used in Structures section to move up in the structure. The Used in Structures section lists the immediate parents of a part. The table initially displays parent assemblies and any assemblies where the selected item is used as a substitute. The information displayed is based on the revision rule currently selected in the Revision Rule list, which defaults to Global. In this case, this refers to the revision that is selected in the global revision rule list. To view all parent items where the selected child item is configured, select All from the Revision Rule list. Click Export to Excel to export the information displayed in the table. The number of structure levels to be exported to Excel is set by your system administrator. Note If an occurrence of an item is used as a substitute in an assembly, those assemblies are not listed in the Used in Structures section. If the selected part is a substitute, the column in the Used in Structures section of the Where Used tab displays for its parent part. Expand the Top Level section if it is not already expanded. Smart Discovery Indexing is used to find the top-level assemblies or products. Therefore, if your system administrator has not installed Smart Discovery, the Top Level section is not displayed. You only see indexed products in the results list. The table initially displays the top-level products in which the selected item is used. This display is based on the revision rule currently selected in the Revision Rule list, which defaults to Global (meaning, the revision rule that is selected in the global revision rule list). This is useful for impact analysis when you want to see which products are affected if the item is changed. It is also useful for determining the traversal path when you want to see the item in the context of one of its products To view the top-level products where the selected child item is configured, select All from the Revision Rule list. Click Export to Excel to export the information displayed in the table. Expand the Contexts section if it is not already expanded. The Context section shows various configurations for the selected component. You can select the configuration you want to open. The Part Usages section lists all the part usages of the selected part across all the products. This is useful for impact analysis when you want to see which products or assemblies are affected if the part is changed. Expand the References section if it is not already expanded.
