Allow overwriting the structure during Excel import

As an administrator, you can allow the engineering users to overwrite the structure data in Teamcenter with the data from the Excel file.

By default, the Overwrite check box on the Import from Excel panel is not available and prevents engineering users from selecting it. However, you can make it available to the engineering users. The Overwrite check box, when selected, replaces the existing structure data in Teamcenter with the corresponding data from the Excel file. This includes the structure hierarchy, properties, elements, subassemblies, and relations.

Procedure

1. From Launcher, click Preferences.

   If this option is unavailable, search for it. You can pin it from the search results for future access.

2. Search for the AWBImportExcelEnableStructureOverwrite preference and set its value to true.

Results

The Overwrite and Merge check boxes on the Import from Excel panel become available for selection. By default, the Merge check box is selected.

What to do next

Inform engineering users that the overwrite operation permanently replaces existing structure data with the Excel file contents. Advise users to create appropriate backups or ensure version control is in place before performing the overwrite operation on the structure data.
