Compare two requirements

Note: Both Teamcenter and Microsoft Office must be either 32-bit or 64-bit. The comparison cannot function properly if the bit versions differ.

Caution: Requirement content includes the text of any Word callout shapes that are inserted in the document. If callout text occurs in the first 2,000 characters, the requirement's Body Cleartext property shows the callout text inline with the overall content. The Body Cleartext property is displayed in the Summary view, on the Overview tab under Item Properties.

You can insert the Body Cleartext property column in the Requirements view. Use the Set the number of rows per line list to display multiple text lines as necessary.

Procedure

  1. In Systems Engineering, Requirements Manager, or My Teamcenter, select a source requirement or specification that you want to compare to another requirement or specification, and then choose Tools→Compare→Document Compare→Start Compare.

  2. Select a target requirement or specification you want to compare to the first selection and choose Tools→Compare→Document Compare→End Compare.

The Export to Word: For Compare Content dialog box opens.

  3. (Optional) Select a specification template to override the default specification template.

  4. (Optional) Select a business object for which to override the object template.

  5. (Optional) If you selected a business object for which to override the object template, select the object template to use for the selected business object, and then click the button.

To configure the template to override for a business object, choose Tools→Microsoft Office Templates→Override Word templates in the Home view. In the Configure Templates to override dialog box, for each specification template, choose a business object.

  6. Click OK. Word opens a document showing a comparison of the requirements.

  7. (Optional) Save the comparison results file using the Microsoft save function.

The comparison file is saved to the Newstuff folder under the source comparison selection that you chose in step 1.

Note: You can configure the number of versions of Teamcenter datasets to keep before deleting old versions by changing the value of the AE_dataset_default_keep_limit preference. When you change the value, it only affects datasets created after the value is changed.
