Migration policy options

Migration policies define the data to be migrated. You can create either volume management (VM) migration policies or hierarchical storage management (HSM) migration policies. Either type of migration policy allows you to select various migration options. Depending on the options chosen, you can further refine the data to be migrated by filtering using standard saved queries for commonly used workspace objects, such as items, item revisions, and datasets. When defining volume management policies you must select a source and destination volume. The following table defines the different migration types and migration options available. Volume policy migration options Description Metadata query options Filter and MetaData Refines a migration policy by checked-out objects, in-process objects and/or remote objects. It further refines a migration policy by file size and date access. You can also choose to retain a copy of migrated files. This is the most granular method of creating a VM migration policy. Further refines a migration policy by defining attributes of the following saved queries: item, item revision, dataset. Water Mark Levels Specifies the high and low watermark levels of the source volume. When the high watermark level is reached, the data is migrated from the source volume to the destination volume. Migration stops when the low watermark is reached. You can further refine the data to be migrated by file size. No saved queries attributes can be used with this method. Moving All Contents Migrates all valid files from the source volume to the destination volume. No saved queries attributes can be used with this method. When defining HSM management policies, you must select a purge option and a migration tier option. The following table lists all available options. HSM policy migration options Definition Purge After Migrate Purges files immediately after migration. Purge Watermark Purges files after the specified high watermark has been reached. Purge continues until the low watermark is reached. Primary-Secondary migration tier Migrates files from the primary source tier to the secondary destination tier. Secondary-Tertiary migration tier Migrates files from the secondary destination tier to the tertiary destination tier. Primary-Tertiary migration tier Migrates files from the primary source tier to the tertiary destination tier. Re-Filed Files Includes refiled files in the migration evaluation. Checked Out Objects Includes the files of checked-out objects in the migration evaluation. In Process Objects Includes the files of in-process objects in the migration evaluation. Remote Objects Includes the files of remote objects in the migration evaluation. Files Accessed Before Considers files accessed before the specified date in the migration evaluation. Files Accessed After Considers files accessed after the specified date in the migration evaluation. File Size Range Includes files of the specified size range in the migration evaluation. Reverse Migrate File Accessed Used with reverse migration. Any file in the secondary or tertiary tier that is accessed more than the selected number of times (1 or 2) is selected for reverse migration.
