Create a Reuse solution variant

A Reuse type of solution variant helps you synchronize the contents of the solution variant with the contents of the source product structure, ensuring all updates are propagated.

Procedure

  1. Open the structure that has variability .
  2. If not already set, select the top line of the structure and set a variability scope. In the Details section, click Edit . In Variability Scope, click Add to search for and add a configurator context. Click Save . Additionally, you can set a variability scope to each of the variable structures at the lower levels for which solution variants are not yet created. These variability scopes must be subsets of the variability scope that you applied to the topmost line of the structure.
  3. To create the Reuse type of solution variant for the entire product, select the topmost line of the structure, and then set the Solution Variant Category as Reuse. When you set the Solution Variant Category as Reuse for the topmost line of the product structure, you must also set the Solution Variant Category as Reuse for the child assemblies. If the Solution Variant Category column is not available by default, you must first add it.
  4. Enable or disable Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed from Configure , as required.
  5. Click the Solution Variants tab. Note If you do not see the Solution Variants tab, contact your system administrator. The Solution Variants section displays a list of the existing solution variants.
  6. In the Solution Variants section, click Create . The Create Solution Variant panel appears and displays a list of the variant rules that are available from the associated variability scope. The Valid for Solution Variant column indicates whether a solution variant can be created for a given variant rule. Yes indicates that all conditions are met, while No indicates at least one condition is invalid. Ensure that all variant rule conditions are met so that a solution variant can be created. By default, the following columns in the Variants tab act as conditions for a valid variant rule. Ensure these default conditions are met. Contact your administrator for configuring the custom validation criteria. Columns in the Variants tab Required values Snapshot Rule Date Policy Date Snapshot Compiled Date Valid True Complete True The Create Solution Variant panel also displays other details for the solution variant, including its ID.
  7. (Optional) Double-click the Revision ID column for a variant rule and select another version, if available. If the selected version of the variant rule is valid, the Valid for Solution Variant column indicates True and you can use it for creating the solution variant.
  8. Select one or more valid variant rules for creating the solution variant.
  9. If required, click the Run in Background check box.
  10. Click Create. The Reuse type of solution variant is created and the following is carried forward: the absolute occurrence properties—Position Designator, ID in Context, and Usage Address—along with the absolute occurrence data properties for a part within the solution variant.
