Typical structure alignment process

The following example shows a typical process for aligning a product structure comprising parts and designs. It would not apply if you work with items, rather than separate parts and designs. The BOM engineer creates a part. The CAD engineer creates a design for the part, independently of the part. The BOM engineer associates the CAD design as a solution for the part. The BOM engineer adds the part to the part structure. This action creates an occurrence of the part. The CAD engineer creates a layout and positions the CAD design. This action creates an occurrence of the design. The CAD engineer aligns the design occurrence with the part occurrence by publishing a link between the two occurrences. The BOM engineer validates the part-CAD occurrence alignment occurrence with the part occurrence. The user views the positioned CAD design from the part structure.
