Create a budget on a structure

After you create a budget definition, you can apply it at any level that represents a significant element of the design, for example, the top-level element or a lower level parent element. The budget applies to the selected element and its entire substructure.

Note

Budgets are typically created on design elements in context, but they can be created on item revisions as well.

Procedure

  1. Select the structure element and choose Tools→Budgets→Edit Budget. The Edit Budget dialog box opens.
  2. In the Budget Definition list, select the name of a budget in which the element does not currently participate. The Excel Template list displays the budget's default template. You can temporarily override the default template by selecting any other template in the list.

Caution

The selected template's Excel Template Rules property must include the values apply_packing and budget_templates.

To edit this property in Teamcenter: right-click the template and choose View→Properties to display the Properties dialog box (the template item, item revision, and dataset are located in the RequirementsManagement Templates/ExcelTemplates folder in your Home folder), then double-click the Excel Template Rules property.

  1. Click OK. Live Excel opens the budget worksheet with empty cells.
  2. Enter values in the appropriate cells of the budget worksheet, as needed.

Note: When you click outside a cell, upstream values are calculated automatically. You can also leave the cells empty and close the worksheet — the budget remains applied to the element and its substructure, although the values are blank in the Budgets view.

  1. To save the budget values to Teamcenter, select the Add-Ins ribbon in the Excel menu bar, and then click the Save to Teamcenter button.
  2. Exit Excel without saving the updates to the spreadsheet.
