Create a Managed solution variant A Managed type of solution variant helps you manually review and merge updates from the source product structure, and allows independent modifications to be made to the solution variant. Create a managed type of solution variant when you want to manually review the updates made to the product structure, and then update the solution variant. In other words, if the source product structure changes, you can compare the changes with the solution variant structure and merge the selected changes manually. You can make direct structural changes, such as adding, removing, or revising child items, to the solution variant independently. Video Procedure Set an active change notice that has the appropriate effectivity. Open an engineering BOM that has the Assembly Indicator set as Configurable Assembly. If not already set, select the top line of the structure and set a variability scope: In the Details section, click Edit . In Variability Scope, click Add to search for and add a configurator context. Click Save . Additionally, you can set a variability scope to any part that is set as Configurable Assembly or Generic Part. For creating the solution variant for the entire product, select the top line of the structure and then set the Solution Variant Category as Managed. For child assemblies, you can set the Solution Variant Category as Reuse, Managed, or Unmanaged. If the Solution Variant Category column is not available by default, you must first add it. Enable or disable Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed from Configure , as required. Click the Solution Variants tab. If you do not see the Solution Variants tab, contact your system administrator. In the Solution Variants section, click Create . The Create Solution Variants panel appears and displays the variant rules that are available from the associated variability scope.The Valid for Solution Variant column indicates whether a solution variant can be created for a given variant rule. Yes indicates that all conditions are met, while No indicates that at least one condition is invalid. Ensure that all variant rule conditions are met so that a solution variant can be created. By default, the following columns in the Variants tab act as conditions for a valid variant rule. Ensure these default conditions are met. Contact your administrator to configure the custom validation criteria. (Optional) Double-click the Revision ID column for a variant rule and select another version if available. If the selected version of the variant rule is valid, the Valid for Solution Variant column indicates True and you can use it for creating the solution variant. Select one or more valid variant rules for creating the solution variant, and then click Create. If required, click the Run in Background check box. Click Create. The Managed type of solution variant is created and the absolute occurrence properties—Position Designator, ID in Context, and Usage Address—along with the absolute occurrence data properties for a part within the solution variant, are carried forward.
