Procedure
- (Optional) Set an active change notice that has the appropriate effectivity.
- Open the structure that has variability . Warning Do not change the state of Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed. Their state must remain the same while creating and updating the solution variant.
- In the Solution Variants tab, click to open an Unmanaged solution variant, and then add, remove, or revise its child items. The solution variant that is impacted due to the changes in the source structure is updated. If a solution variant is already released, it is first revised and then updated. If the effectivity of the active change notice completely overlaps with the effectivity of the change notice under which the source structure was updated, the impacted solution variant usage is revised and its ECN In is the same as the active change notice. When you update a solution variant in the context of an active change, the updates are reflected in the change summary. Depending on whether the automatic propagation of effectivity is set, the following happens: Automatic propagation of effectivity is set In this case, if release effectivity is set for the active change, the solution variant occurrences inherit the release effectivity as their element effectivity. Else, the solution variant occurrences inherit the effectivity set for the source structure. Automatic propagation of effectivity is not set In this case, the solution variant occurrences inherit the effectivity set for the source structure. After the solution variant is updated, the absolute occurrence properties for a part within the solution variant are carried forward. The absolute occurrence properties, that is, the Position Designator, the ID in Context, and the Usage Address, are also transferred if your administrator has configured them to be carried forward.
- If you have set an active change notice, release the active change. To do so, click Changes , select the change, and click Release Change.
