An offline live Word document is:

  • Generated when you select Export for structure editing and work offline in the Teamcenter Export to Word dialog box. This option becomes available when you select Live Integration with Word.
  • Saved outside of Teamcenter, for example, on your desktop or on a shared drive.
  • Temporarily disconnected from Teamcenter.

You can use an offline document to accumulate changes, until later you synchronize the changes with the structure. For example, on a business flight, you can edit the offline data on your laptop computer. When you return to your office, you can connect to your Teamcenter server and apply the changes.

Caution:

  • Before you open an offline document to accumulate changes, ensure that no other live Word document is connected to Teamcenter. If another document is connected, the offline document you open shares that connection automatically and the current content is open for synchronization with Teamcenter.
  • Properties with dynamic or cascading lists of values (LOVs) cannot be created or modified with live Word.

Live Word displays the Requirements pane automatically in offline documents. This pane contains an expandable tree, which shows the object hierarchy of the exported structure. You can click a requirement in the pane to navigate to its content in the document.

By default, the exported objects are checked out automatically before the document is generated. This default behavior can be changed with the REQ_checkout_objects_before_export preference, which controls the Check out objects before export option in the Export to Word dialog box.

Workflow illustrated in the source figure:

  1. Requirements Manager Requirements view
  2. Requirement specification selected
  3. Teamcenter Export To Word dialog box (Tools→Export→Objects To Word)
  4. Live Integration with Word option
  5. Export for structure editing and work offline option
  6. Offline live Word document
  7. Live Word Requirements pane (structure expanded)
  8. Checked out symbol
  9. Requirement content

Note: The Word_Show_Display_Name preference determines the display names shown by default for the objects in the Requirements pane. Display names are configured using the DisplayName property in the Business Modeler IDE.
