Configuring structures by using Product Configurator variants > About solution variants
Create solution variants for subset SVR
If the configurator context is different is subassemblies, the system limits the creation of the solution variant to the subassembly that contains the SVR. In such cases, only the features that apply to the configurator context associated to that subassembly are used in the solution variant.
Note You must allocate all the features from the configurator context of subassemblies to the configurator context of the root structure. The following is an example of how to create solution variants with subset criteria.
Procedure For the root assembly, the configurator context with groups, families, and features is as follows. For the subassembly, the configurator context with groups, families, and features is as follows. In Structure Manager, open the following structure. Enable the Solution Variant Category column. This column is not available by default. To insert this column, right-click on a column, select Insert columns, choose Solution Variant Category, click Add, and then click Apply. In the Solution Variant Category column, select: Managed for the root structure (Handdrill), and Battery Pack 18 V and Battery Pack 12 V subassemblies. Reuse for the Motor with gearbox subassembly. To open the Variant Configuration view, click Set option values for selected module on the main toolbar. Select the required features. Selections are indicated by a check mark or a circle backslash icon in a cell. The check mark indicates that the option is included in the product configuration. The circle backslash icon indicates that the option is excluded from the configuration. Alternatively, click Load Variant Rules and select a saved variant rule. To validate if the selected features are applicable to the structure, click Validate . To apply the selected features to the structure, click Applies the current configuration to the associated structure . To create the solution variant, click Solution Variant. (Optional) Select Dry Run and click Start. Alternatively, click Start to create a solution variant without performing a dry run. The system creates three solution variants for the complete root structure and creates the Motor with gearbox and Battery Pack 12 V subassemblies. The root structure contains all the criteria from the top configurator context and the Motor with gearbox subassembly contains only the subset criteria from the subset configurator context. Open the Motor with gearbox solution variant and view its SVR. It shows the subset SVR as follows:
