Modeling systems > Managing branches with collaborative modeling
Create a new branch
You can create a new branch for a project when you need to spin off supplemental work based on a version of the main branch. For example, branching off work on a car stereo from the main car branch model.
You can also create a branch for experimental reasons, such as testing out new ideas and changes. By doing this on a branch, you can make changes without affecting the main branch of the model.
Procedure
Search for a system model project and view the branch data in the Content work mode.
Click Manage Branches to open the Manage Branches panel and display the toolbar.
Tip: Select Show All Branches from Show/Hide Branches to see all the branches for the system model.
Select the branch you want to create the new branch from. This branch is used as the source for your new branch. You can choose the main branch or any child branches.
Click Create Branch.
Enter the new branch name and a description.
Click Create.
The new branch is created. It is displayed as a child branch of the source branch.
