Compare configuration baselines

You can compare two configuration baselines within the same structure to view their differences. These configuration baselines can have different types, states, and release statuses.

Procedure

1. Select the structure for which the configuration baselines are created and click the Baselines tab. The Baselines tab displays all configuration baselines created for the selected structure.
2. Select two or more configuration baselines and click Compare Structures . The Compare Structures view appears and displays the comparison between the selected configuration baselines. The Compare panel displays the elements that are unique to both the configuration baselines with color bars under the Results. This comparison is performed with the default comparison options.
3. (Optional) Change the comparison level: Specify the comparison level by selecting one of the following from Options. Comparison option Description All Levels Compares the configuration baselines at every level in the two structures. If this option is selected for very large structures, performance may be adversely affected. Components Only Compares only the elements, or components that are at the lowest level. Current Level Compares only the elements that are the immediate children of the selections in the two structures. This is the default level of comparison. Linked Assemblies or Components Compares the two configuration baselines by using an accountability check. This comparison level is displayed only if Multi-Structure Foundation is available in your Teamcenter environment. Accountability check is a verification mechanism to check if all the elements in one structure have equivalent elements in the other structure. You can define your own properties for equivalence. All Levels Below Selected Compares the configuration baselines below the levels that you selected. Specify what you want to display in the comparison results by selecting one or more of the following options from Options > Display. Comparison option Description Matched Displays the elements that are a match in both of the configuration baselines. Different Displays the elements that differ between the two configuration baselines. Multiple Matches Displays the different numbers of occurrences of the same element in the comparison as a difference. Unique in Left View Displays the elements that are only listed in the configuration baseline that is displayed on the left. Unique in Right View Displays the elements that are only listed in the configuration baseline that is displayed on the right. For Linked Assemblies or Components, select the Dynamic Equivalence check box.In some cases, the occurrences that are slightly different in the two configuration baselines might not be reported as equivalent. The dynamic equivalence check reports such occurrences.This check box is displayed only if Multi-Structure Foundation is available in your Teamcenter environment. (Optional) Select the Generate Report check box to generate the comparison report. Click Compare.The comparison results are listed under Results. Clicking an element in the list highlights that element in the configuration baselines.Comparison results are retained for a specific period. If a comparison result is older than the retention period or if a more recent result exists, the old result is automatically deleted by the system.If you selected the Generate Report check box, the comparison report is generated in Excel. If you are the owner of the configuration baselines, the report is attached to it. You can click the Attachments tab of the target structure to download the report. If you are not the owner of the configuration baselines, the report is saved in the Newstuff folder. The file name for the comparison report is in the format Compare_Report_AND_YYYYMMDD_HH_MM_SS, where Source_ID is the ID of the first configuration baseline that you want to compare and Target_ID is the ID of the configuration baseline with which you want to compare the first configuration baseline. You can also click Alerts to understand the location of the comparison report if the configuration baselines are compared in the background.Tip If you closed the Compare panel and want to perform any further comparison, click Compare on the task bar to view the Compare panel again. When you are comparing the two configuration baselines, you can configure them by unit effectivity, date effectivity, and by variants.
4. Click Exit Compare to close the comparison.
