Overview of capturing the structure configuration using baselines Baseline is a persistent record of all or part of a product’s definition data that can be accessed at any time during or after a product’s life. Baselines help you capture and preserve the state of the structure and its sub-assemblies at a particular checkpoint in the product development. For instance, if you are working on an aircraft structure and have nearly completed the engine assembly while still progressing on the stabilizer and wings assemblies, you can create a configuration baseline for the engine assembly. After the stabilizer assembly is finished, you can establish another baseline for it. You can create a precise baseline and a configuration baseline. When you create a baseline, you can create a precise baseline and capture the 150% structure of the BOM. After creating a precise baseline, when you open it, you must configure it again to view the exact structure that you want to view. For example, when you open a precise baseline, you must select the revision rule to view the exact configuration of the structure. After a precise baseline is created, you cannot further modify it. When you create a configuration baseline, you can capture the exact same configuration of the structure. If your Teamcenter environment includes the required license and when you create a configuration baseline, you can choose the required type of the configuration baseline that you want to create. Using baselines, you can perform the following tasks: Create precise baselines and capture the 150% structure of the BOM. Note You cannot create a precise baseline for a Collaborative Product EBOM. Create configuration baselines for the complete structure or for an individual sub-assembly. Considering multiple milestones involved in the product development, generate multiple baselines to track different development milestones for the same sub-assembly. For example, you might first create an ad hoc design review baseline and later a system design review baseline for the engine assembly. When multiple baselines are created for the same sub-assembly, compare configuration baselines to identify changes between the milestones.
